Lorain Police Department names Tom Orlosky as Lorain City Schools SRO

The Lorain City School District has announced that on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Lorain Police Officer Tom Orlosky began serving as School Resource Officer, for the district.

Orlosky fills the position which has been vacant, since the end of January, due to an off-duty injury which resulted in former SRO David Kusznir being removed from active duty with the police department and school.

The six-year veteran of the department is no stranger to the district, as he has served in the same capacity for the entirety of the 2016-2017 school year, and majority of the 2017-2018 school year, according to Safety Coordinator Reuben Figueroa.

Orlosky will be stationed at the high school safety office and be in charge of district wide school issues. He will work hand in hand with the police department’s Criminal Impact Unit (CIU) who will continue to support our district’s needs

Figueroa said through Orlosky’s veteran leadership within the police department, and the relationships he has built within the hallways of the district’s 14 buildings during his previous tenure as SRO, his return to the role is a welcomed one.

“We are excited for Officer Orlosky’s return to the district,” Figueroa said. “The SRO is a great support and I am glad to have one with us. His experience with, and understanding of, the daily operations within our schools will provide a seamless transition back into the role of School Resource Officer for all of us. His established relationships, and level of respect he has earned from our scholars during his previous time here, is an assurance that we will see a vast improvement in the conduct of our scholars, as they go along with their daily routines.”

According to the Lorain Police Department’s website, Orlosky was born in Cleveland and graduated from St. Edward High School. He attended the University of Findlay, where he played football and was a starting offensive lineman. Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and later coached football at St. Edward High School. Officer Orlosky has been a Lorain Police Officer since 2013 working as a Patrol Officer.
