One of the staple events is the
Cinco de Mayo 5K and One Mile Fun Run, sponsored by
Adelante, Inc. The start and finish of the race course will be
at Adelante’s offices, 520 Broadway St., Toledo. The
registration cost for the 5K is $25, while the fun run is $15.
Race day registration will begin at 9 a.m., while the event
starts at 10 a.m. on May 5th.
The Toledo Zoo will host a
Cinco de Mayo festival on Sunday, May 5, which features a
family-friendly fiesta free with zoo admission that day. The
activities will take place on the main plaza 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
featuring a performance from El Corazón de México Folklorico
dance group, music provided by DJ Tony Rios, a piñata, Mexican
paper flower crafts, and other fun activities.
The Keeping Sports Alive
Carnival will be held again this year at The Believe Center,
1 Aurora González Dr. Toledo. The event kicks off Friday
evening, May 24, 6 to 11 p.m. and will run through Sunday, May
26, noon to 6 p.m. The weekend fundraiser features affordable
family fun, which includes carnival rides and games,
performances, raffles, and youth boxing demonstrations.
The Northwest Ohio Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce’s Northwest Ohio Latino Fest will be
held Thursday, May 30 [6-10PM], Friday, May 31 [noon to 11PM],
and Saturday, June 1 [10AM to 11PM] at the Lucas County
Fairgrounds, 1406 Key St., Maumee, Ohio. Salsa-king Sammy DeLeón
and his orchestra will be among the featured entertainers. The
popular band hails from Lorain/Cleveland. Vendors will be
located indoors in Rec Hall 2 on Friday and Saturday. There will
be amusement rides and a salsa tasting contest. NOHCC organizers
say more musical acts will be announced and the festival’s focus
will be to “celebrate the histories and cultures of those whose
ancestors come from México, the Caribbean, Central and South
America.” But the entire community will be invited “to celebrate
the heritage, food, music, dance and the art of all Latin

Good Times Bar and Grill, 1451 E. Maumee St. in Adrian,
Michigan, is organizing a Cinco de Mayo parade and fiesta on
Saturday, May 4, 2019. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and
will proceed down Maumee St., ending at the bar’s parking lot
