Glassblowing and branding focus of glass master class at the Toledo Museum of Art

Los Angeles artist Joe Cariati will teach a one-week glass art master class at the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) June 24-28, 2019. This class is geared toward experienced glassblowers who are looking to make a breakthrough improvement in their process while learning about branding and sales.

“This class is geared for individuals that seek answers to glassblowing that may be keeping them up at night. Through philosophical discussion and focused practice, we will unearth what may be troubling you at the bench,” Cariati said. “This class will be dedicated to slowing down to help you go fast, while addressing concerns and constraints you are experiencing in the studio.”

The students will work primarily in clear glass. This course will include a daily seminar on professional practices for aspiring designer and makers interested or involved in branding and sales.

Cariati is an award-winning artist, craftsman, and educator with over 20 years of glassblowing experience. His work is entirely free blown, a Venetian glassblowing process that utilizes the human hand, not blow molds, to form vessels from start to finish. In 2003, he established his eponymous studio in Los Angeles, California where he continues to refine his craft and push his boundaries as a glassblower and a designer.

Cariati’s class is one in a series of master classes the Museum is hosting from May through August 2019. The glass master classes will run one week, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch provided. Each week-long class will cost $950 for Museum members and $1,000 for non-members.
