Detroit-area lectures explore Jewish, Muslim immigration

DETROIT, March 8, 2019 (AP): Jewish and Muslim immigration to the United States were explored during a Detroit-area lecture series. The series, ``Destination America: Jewish and Muslim Migration—Histories & Trajectories,” began Wednesday at the Muslim Unity Center in Bloomfield Hills. The theme is ``Off to America.”

Other lectures are ``The Allures of the Melting Pot'' March 19 at West Bloomfield's Congregation Beth Ahm and ``Diaspora Politics'' March 26 at Detroit's Wayne State University.

The events are free but registration is required.

The series, part of the annual ``A Shared Future'' program, features two Wayne State academics: Howard Lupovitch, director of the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies, and Saeed Khan, a lecturer in the Department of Near East & Asian Studies.

The Jewish Community Relations Council/AJC and Michigan Muslim Community Council present the series.
