IBC
hosts anniversary fiesta
The International Boxing Club hosts an anniversary party,
celebrating its 10th year—The International Boxing
Club first opened their doors on June 1, 1998.
According to organizers, IBC has provided after school programs
that focus on academic, cultural, social and recreational
learning opportunities to more than 3,000 youth since its
incorporation in 1998.
The mission of the International Boxing Club is to “empower
youth in the Greater Toledo Area to succeed in life.” IBC uses
the platform of amateur boxing to reach underserved youth who
are at-risk for academic failure, gang involvement, substance
abuse, teenage pregnancy, suicide, and other destructive
behaviors.
In 2007, IBC launched the “Gloves with Love Program,” where
service-learning activities are coordinated with area
organizations such as the Hungarian Club, Sister Cities, Lucas
County Metropolitan Housing Authority, St. Paul’s Community
Center, Special Olympics of
Ohio, and The Victory Center.
Through service-learning activities, youth learn civic
responsibility, teamwork, problem solving, and continuous
improvement practices, as well as compassion for the elderly,
disabled, and economically disadvantaged.
The celebration will be held at the International Boxing Club,
1717 Adams Street, Toledo, at
5:00PM. If you have any questions, call Harry Cummins at
419-450-8435.
